A nocturnal midway lit with 40-watt bulbs, where accommodation is disguised as hospitality and safety is only ever rented by the hour.

The mirrors were not silvered with truth. They were lined with expectation.

If you stood before the third glass, you saw a version of yourself whose voice never cracked and whose existence never caused inconvenience. Everyone outside the tent applauded whenever you smiled into it.

The danger was not in seeing the reflection. The danger was in mistaking the applause for permission to breathe.

Note Scratched into the Tent Pole:

The reflection leaves the tent when you leave. You do not have to carry it in your pocket.
